On August 25, China’s first offshore pure electric tug – “Yungang Electric Tug No.1” was officially put into service.
The battery pack of “Yungang Electric Tug No.1” is composed of EVE LF280 LFP battery cell.
This is another breakthrough in the marine application of EVE LF280 LFP battery cell.
The LF280 has obtained CCS type approval certificate and has four advantages:
- Consistency – highly automated, intelligent and informative production
- Safety – square aluminum case + explosion-proof valve combination cover, certified by TÜV Rheinland
- Performance – low internal resistance, high discharge multiplier and stable discharge platform
- Long life – more than 7000 times cycle life
The construction of the vessel started in October 2020, with an overall length of 35.5 meters, a width of 10 meters, a full load draft of 3.5 meters, a speed of not less than 13 knots, a working time of not less than 8 hours, a total power design of 5,000 kWh and a forward towing force of 48 tons.

According to the calculation, compared with the same level of fuel tug and the same operation volume, a pure electric tug can save about 300 tons of fuel consumption and reduce 900 tons of carbon oxide emission every year.
In addition, the tug can be charged with high-voltage shore power technology, which can be fully charged in 2 hours in fast charging mode to meet the continuous 8-hour operation demand of electric tug.
